Journey
2012 · Pinhole Photography · 25 × 10 cm, edition of 30
Journey changes scale as it moves. A canopy from below, a shoreline, a leaf held close, a puddle, people standing far out in shallow water.
The photographs are made with a pinhole camera built from a matchbox, the same camera used in all the pinhole work that followed, and they are minimally edited. A vertical streak of light runs through most of the frames where the camera let light in, and it has been kept. People appear here, at a distance, and Journey is the only one of these works where they do.
It established the camera, the low position close to the ground, and the habit of photographing while walking through a place. Wilderness came the year after.
