We Imagine Dying into Plants

2026 · 3D Print, acrylic medium, vinyl paint, wax · Dimensions variable

Sculptures to be picked up, held in cupped hands or hugged. Each one is a single grain of birch pollen.

The form comes from a scan made under a microscope, 3D-printed and scaled up. The surface is acrylic medium and vinyl paint, waxed. They are arranged in groups, in sizes from a handful to an armful.

The scan was made in order to see the grain clearly. Enlarged this far it stops being recognisable. It looks heavy. It weighs almost nothing.

Birch pollen moves through the air every spring and cannot be seen. It is counted and reported, and anyone who reacts to it knows when it has arrived.

The title is a sentence from Fossil Language, for something carried on the air that stops and takes root.
