Everything in these prints came from one site. Ash from a fireplace burning local wood, clay dried from the brook, and the sunlight that fell on the paper.
The work was made during a residency at Djerassi in California. The ash and clay were spread on sensitised paper and shaken slightly. The wind moved the rest, and friction against the paper decided what held. Some was brushed away before developing. The material blocks the light rather than reacting with it, so the marks are the places the sun did not reach.
